Our Father
This is the first in a series of short devotionals on the Lord’s Prayer, by Pastor Peter Linnecar. Here, he shares what the words “Our Father” mean to us today.
It thrilled Jesus’ heart when He was asked by the disciples, “Lord, teach us to pray.” And the first two words that they heard Him say were, “Our Father.”
And there’s something about the word ‘our’ that brings identification: for the disciples, for you and for me with the Father.
And through “Our Father,” in that identification we see that God is someone who speaks into mankind. He is the one who was at the beginning – He was the Word. “Our Father” brings you and me collectively before Him.
When Jesus said those words, “Our Father,” the disciples knew that when they witnessed Him praying on His own in the Garden of Gethsemane, it was a case of complete communion of the Son with the Father.
We are just like Him in that we have complete communion with God, “Our Father.”
