Make a difference in a Nairobi slum
.jpg)
Kennedy is a graduate civil engineer in Nairobi but he also has a heart for children in the slums and working in the kingdom of God. He has no proper employment yet due to the arcane way the government regulates the building industry.
For involved reasons of denominational politics he with 3 others finds themselves running a growing children’s Sunday school on their own - by faith. The Sunday school was attached to a church which has moved out of the slums but Kennedy believes he has been called to nurture children in the slums into the ways and knowledge of God.

He has learned that if you can instill the ways of God in children by the time they are 7, they will not depart from them. Hence his commitment to this work.
They have 20 -30 children aged 3 to 10 who turn up to hear bible stories, sing, learn scripture passages and exchange books. Kennedy runs a lending library for the children who are avid readers to ensure they fill their minds with good information and stories.
Many of the children are more or less orphans. Rather than seeking to get them into orphanages, he has started to find foster parents from local churches to take one or two in. Again more mouths to feed but a safer and more wholesome environment in which to grow up.
With no regular income they manage to rent a house for 7000 Kenyan shillings (£50) a month, buy Sunday school material and give the children one decent meal a week. They also endeavor to take the children on trips out of the slums once a month.
Not surprisingly they struggle to pay the rent, provide teaching materials and feed the children.
We first met Kennedy in 2010 on a mission trip to an orphanage in a Christian community some 100 miles North of Nairobi. Kennedy organised the logistics of transporting our party to the settlement and escorted us back safely through the slums to see his work then on to the airport. We found him faithful and reliable in all our dealings with him.
If you would like to know more about Kennedy or support his work please contact Chris or Anthea and we can explain how to send materials or donations either one off or small regular amounts.
